Halloween!
Friday our class Halloween party was another huge success! The event combines all the 4th grade children rotating between Scary Lights Out Stories (compliments of Mr. Dalton) to Yummy Snacks, and finally to the movie "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." It was a fun afternoon and the children were especially well behaved. Scary costumes were the theme of the day and for the first time ever, my very own Mr. Hilts' clone showed up! What a wonderful group of children.

Wigwams & Longhouses
One of the best units each year in Social Studies is our studies of the early Native American tribes that inhabited our area. The children studied about the Ottawa, Chippewa, and Pottawattamie tribes and their cultures. As a result each child was responsible to construct their own version of a home used by their tribe. Later, these children will be writing reports that will accompany their structure on display during Parent Teacher Conferences next month. I thoroughly enjoy the comments I hear from the parents and the children themselves who all really enjoyed the fellowship constructing these projects.
Grass River Field Trip
This was our first trip to Grass River Natural Area in 4th grade. This trip encompassed many areas of our Life Science Units that will be studied next spring. The children were exposed to the Circle of Life, including birth, death, and decomposition of many forms of Northern Michigan Wildlife. They also learned valuable lessons in Animal Adaptations, including several children dressing up in the very features that make a beaver a successful survivor! Jacob D. & Sarah look great, don't they? Finally, the children also learned about animal tracks, habitats, and how the food chain is a valuable factor in determining the survival of a species. Thanks to our chaperones, Mrs. Torres, Mrs. Lajewski, and Mrs. Keranen. We couldn't have done it without you, ladies. Thanks to the Grass River Natural Area Staff, who provided a wonderful afternoon of learning. Finally, thanks to the class. They were a wonderfully behaved group of children. It was a great day, gang.
